Street Party @ Sid's Pub

16.6.12

There's a charity event held at Sid's Pub by Hospis Malaysia last weekend. It was my first time to work as an assistant photographer for an happening event. I personally not really into event shooting because I don't own a high tech camera. I'm using a second-hand camera. If you are wonder what camera I am using... I'm using a Nikon D40. I am loving that camera but I'm lack of confidence to shoot for an event. However, I'd enjoy myself shooting that day. It's a great experience for me. I also realized I've made a huge mistake by using manual focus. I've been struggling to focus the right object or people, and spend a lot of time adjusting my lens which is not encourage for an event shooting because you have to be fast, quick to catch the moments. I learned the lesson and I'll keep remind myself - never forget to set auto focus before I start shooting for an event in future.

To go up to a group of people you don't know and ask permission to take a photograph of them is not something I would do usually. I find it quite uncomfortable and awkward. I'm shy that way but I have no problem talking to people though. I'm really glad that I manage to overcome this fear last weekend, I'm still working on it. Overall, I think this event shooting is a great training for me, not only to improve my photos but myself as well.
